Montreal Section Meeting

Andre Bazergui provided the following report: “The Montreal Section of the Academy held its Annual General Meeting last Thursday, June 15 at the New CHUM (Centre hospitalier de l’Université de Montréal University) with about 30 CAE Fellows attending. They were joined by members of the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences and other guests for an exceptional program on the New CHUM. The speakers were Dr. Eric Meslin FCAHS, President and CEO of the Council of Canadian Academies, Dr. Fabrice Brunet, President and CEO of CHUM, and Mr. Jacques Morency, Associate Director – Architecture, Engineering, Construction, Commissioning and Facility Management, who gave an outstanding presentation on the intricacies of realizing such a mammoth $2.5 billion project. A very impressive visit of the facilities followed; our group being the first to be offered such a visit. During the cocktail, the architects Azad Chichmanian and Michael Mueller shared their vision of the project.

The CHUM Research Centre opened its doors in 2013 and the hospital will open this year, unveiling the new CHUM, a world-class teaching hospital in tune with its community where it plays a major role, in a socially aware perspective of sustainable development and concerted urban approach.

A great meeting ably organized by CAE Fellows Yves Beauchamps, Chair of the Montreal Section, and Clermont Gignac, Executive director at the Ministry of Health, responsible for the implementation of the new Montreal Hospitals.
