Equity, Diversity and Inclusion

Gender imbalance and Indigenous under-representation are the most widely recognized equity, diversity and inclusion challenges facing engineering in Canada. Given the critical role that engineering will play in addressing urgent and long-term economic, social and environmental challenges, it is vital that talented and committed individuals see engineering as a path to contribute. The transformational changes required over the next decades to achieve a sustainable future demand that people making large and small decisions regarding the engineered world we live in should better represent the population at large.

The Academy has many Fellows who act as mentors and role models. They defy stereotypes and contribute to the future of engineering through their work and volunteer activities. The Academy looks to incorporate equity, diversity and inclusion issues throughout its programs and to work with partners to champion systemic change.
