CAE News for the week of 6 May

On a weekly basis, the CAE compiles news of interest to the organization and its members, and makes it publicly available on our website. The CAE works to highlight emerging issues in which engineering has a role as well as promote recognition of engineering excellence and innovation.

New President of Professional Engineers Ontario

Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO), the licensing and regulating body for professional engineers and engineering in the province, installed Nancy Hill, FCAE, as its 100th president during its annual general meeting (AGM) at the Hilton Toronto Hotel on May 4.

AIMBE College of Fellows Class of 2019

Congratulations to McMaster Engineering Professor Heather Sheardown, FCAE, on her election as a Fellow of the AIMBE International Academy of Medical & Biological Engineering. She was  elected  for “outstanding contributions to the development of ophthalmic biomaterials.”

2019 CAE Scholarship Winners Announced

The Canadian Academy of Engineering is pleased to announce the winners of its 2019 national scholarship competitions.

The winner of the 2019 CAE William G. Belfry SAE Award is Mr. Keegan Richter, a final year Mechanical Engineering student at the University of Victoria. He has participated in a number of design projects, including the Formula Hybrid Design Team. His reference commended him on his teamwork, attention to detail, and communication.

The winner of the 2019 CAE Bruce Aubin SAE Aerospace Design Award is Mr. Keagan Shedden, also a Mechanical Engineering student at the University of Victoria. He has been actively involved in rocketry projects and is currently employed in a 10 month co-op placement with a rocket company based in New Zealand. His reference from that company noted that he is exceptionally diligent and self-motivated.

Congratulations Professor Ali Khademhosseini, FCAE, on being elected to the International Academy of Medical & Biological Engineering (IAMBE) for 2019.

Clean fuel cells could be cheap enough to replace gas engines in vehicles

University of Waterloo Professor Xianguo Li, FCAE, has made outstanding contributions to clean energy, including fuel cells, liquid automization and sprays, and low-emission combustion engines.
