CAE Fellow Community Events

The CAE provides Fellows with an opportunity to share Fellow-led community events that may be of interest to members of the engineering community.

Community events are independently organized by Fellows. The CAE provides a platform for Fellows to share these opportunities but does not organize, fund or actively promote these events.

What Kinds of Events Are Appropriate?

Community events should support the CAE’s mission, values and Strategic Plan and provide a meaningful connection to the engineering profession or the broader community served by the CAE.

Examples may include events that:

  • Support one or more areas of the CAE’s Strategic Plan
  • Promote the advancement of engineering, innovation, research or education
  • Facilitate knowledge-sharing or discussion on topics relevant to engineering
  • Connect engineers, researchers, industry, government, students or other relevant communities
  • Contribute to the objectives and values of the CAE

Events will be reviewed to ensure that they are appropriate for the CAE community and aligned with the Academy’s purpose and values. Submission does not guarantee that an event will be accepted or listed.

What the CAE Can Provide

Fellows may submit a community event for consideration to be listed on the CAE Community Events page.

Where appropriate, Fellows may also request use of the CAE’s Zoom account for a virtual community event. Use of CAE’s Zoom account is subject to availability and approval.

The CAE will also include upcoming community events in the monthly InfoFlash newsletter, encouraging readers to visit the Community Events page for event details.

These are the standard forms of support available for community events.

What the CAE Does Not Provide

Community events are not CAE-hosted events. They are independently organized and managed by the Fellow.

The CAE does not provide event planning, coordination, funding or dedicated promotional support for community events.

The CAE will not:

  • Develop or manage the event
  • Register attendees or manage event registration
  • Contact or coordinate speakers
  • Arrange travel, accommodation, catering or other logistics
  • Provide event funding or reimburse expenses
  • Create promotional materials
  • Send dedicated promotional emails for the event
  • Promote the event through CAE’s social media channels
  • Provide ongoing staff support or event coordination

The inclusion of an event on the CAE website or in InfoFlash does not constitute an endorsement of the event, its organizers, speakers or content.

Fellow Responsibilities

The Fellow submitting the event is responsible for all event planning, coordination, communications and logistics, unless CAE has specifically agreed otherwise.

The Fellow is responsible for:

  • Providing accurate event information
  • Managing registrations and participant communications
  • Coordinating speakers and participants
  • Managing the event and any required technology
  • Ensuring that the event information remains current
  • Meeting any deadlines associated with the CAE website listing or InfoFlash submission
  • Covering all event-related costs unless the CAE has specifically approved otherwise

Fellows must not make financial, contractual or other commitments on behalf of the CAE without prior approval.

Need More Support?

If you would like the CAE to take a more active role in organizing, coordinating, funding or promoting your event, please submit a Fellow-Led CAE Event Request instead.

The Fellow-Led CAE Event process is intended for events where the CAE is being asked to provide significant staff involvement, financial support, communications support or other organizational resources.

These requests are subject to the CAE’s event parameters, available resources, staff capacity and approval process, including the requirement for sufficient advance planning.
