UK’s RAEng Call for Evidence: International Building Regulations

Our colleagues at the RAEng have made of us the following request:

Following the tragic fire at Grenfell Tower in London on 14 June 2017, the UK government has announced a review of UK building and fire safety regulations that will be chaired by Dame Judith Hackitt DBE FREng. This review is separate from the police and public inquiries into the Grenfell Tower fire. It will examine the UK regulatory system for high-rise residential buildings at a systematic level, examining the legislation that applies to these buildings, how these regulations interact, and whether there are shortcomings in the regulatory system.

One element of this work will explore whether there are lessons that can be learned from the structure and operation of regulatory systems in countries outside of the UK that could contribute to the review of the UK system.

The RAEng has provided us with a list of questions and have requested a response by September 13, 2017.

If you feel you are able and willing to contribute, please contact kgoheen@cae-acg.ca.
