We invite CAE Members to join us for the 2021 Virtual AGM. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, we will be hosting the AGM via webinar.
Immediately following the business portion, we will release the list of new Fellows for 2021 and as well introduce the inaugural “Douglas Ruth Memorial Lecture”.
Our invited speakers are CAE’s newest Honorary Fellows:
Dr. Donna Strickland, FCAE, FRSC, CC
Presentation: Global Environmental Measurement and Monitoring
Bio: Donna Strickland is the co-recipient of the Nobel Prize in Physics 2018, for co-inventing chirped pulse amplification, the method of generating high-intensity, ultrashort optical pulses. She has made pioneering contributions to photonics, laser physics and laser matter interactions over a sustained period of time. She has published over 80 key articles in international journals and her work has been cited over 9,000 times. She is a Fellow of the Optical Society since 2008 and served as its President in 2013. Dr. Strickland is also a Fellow of SPIE. Her scientific, technical and human leadership are widely acknowledged and appreciated by her peers.
Lorne Trottier, OC, FCAE
Presentation: A Perspective on Climate Change and 21st Century Challenge
Bio: Engineer, entrepreneur and philanthropist, Lorne Trottier has poured his passion for science into research, technological development and education in Quebec. In 1976, he co-founded Matrox Electronic Systems Ltd., a company known for its innovative computer graphics products. Through his technical innovation and market sense, he has helped Matrox become a world-leading multinational company in the field of computer graphics, video and imaging. He is also unfailing in support of his alma mater, McGill University, in addition to supporting Polytechnique Montreal and the Montreal Science Centre. He was named a Member of the Order of Canada in 2007 and promoted to Officer in 2016.
